Dental bonding is a proven solution that can correct several cosmetic tooth issues that you may be experiencing. Some of these problems dental bonding can correct include:
Dental bonding is a simple and cost-effective solution that can correct a multitude of issues including those just mentioned. Compared to other procedures used to correct dental issues such as crowns or veneers, dental bonding is an incredibly affordable procedure. In addition to being affordable, the procedure itself is time-efficient and will typically require just a single visit lasting between 30 minutes and an hour. If you are worried about downtime, there is no need. No anesthesia is required for the procedure, meaning you will be up and back on your feet following the procedure so you can immediately continue your day.
Now that you understand why you may need dental bonding and what it can correct, you may be wondering how it is done? Is it painful and invasive? The answer to that is no! It’s a simple process that begins with an exam during which your teeth will be looked at to see if the bonding process is going to be a viable solution. There are situations where more serious dental work may be needed, but if your dentist deems bonding a viable solution, what follows is very easy.
First, your dentist will most likely be working with composite resin. Composite resin is pliable so that, once it’s applied, it can be shaped to match your natural tooth structure. This resin is also chosen to match the color of your surrounding teeth. The tooth (or teeth) needing the bonding will be very gently and minimally etched to create a rough outer surface onto which a bonding liquid will be applied. Once this bonding liquid is in place, the resin (think of a putty) is applied and shaped appropriately.
Once the resin is applied, a UV light will be used to harden the material and then a polish will be applied so that it matches the sheen of your surrounding teeth. The purpose is to have a bonded tooth that nobody can notice!
