Important Notice.

Dear Patient,

We trust this finds you well. As an essential healthcare provider, West Portal Family Dentistry has kept limited hours throughout the entire shelter in place order, to provide urgent care for our community. We have seen many of you, as well as, some new people from the community who needed emergency care.

We will be adding office hours starting Tuesday, May 12, 2020 and resuming normal schedule by Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

We will be returning to a “new normal” way of providing dental care, in order to ensure the safety of all our patients and staff. We have put in place enhanced protocols per CDC and ADA guidelines to accomplish this goal. We will be screening all staff and patients every day for symptoms of COVID 19. The temperature will be taken and screening questions will be asked and recorded. The reception area was reconfigured to allow for social distancing. The schedule was modified to lessen the number of people in the office at the same time. The enhanced intra-oral suctioning system will be deployed for appropriate procedures to better control aerosols. We have always followed strict OSHA guidelines for disinfecting and sterilizing surfaces, equipments, and instruments; and we will continue to do so. Enhanced PPE protocols will be used to ensure we deliver the safest possible dentistry for our patients and staff.

Please contact us via phone at 415.661.7779 or via email should you have any questions or concerns. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation throughout this challenging, new normal way of delivering the best possible dental care to you.

Take care and see you soon !

Are porcelain veneers permanent? San Francisco, CA area dentist educates patients on these restorations

Are porcelain veneers permanent

When patients in San Francisco, CA visit West Portal Family Dentistry to ask about cosmetic procedures for their smiles, they may be introduced to the idea of placing porcelain veneers. They are thin, ceramic restorations that are bonded over the front of teeth to disguise imperfections, including:

  • Permanent staining
  • Unusually shaped teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Fractured teeth

Drs. Terri Nguyen and Laura Huynh provide porcelain veneers for patients who want a natural-looking option for addressing aesthetic issues.

Are porcelain veneers permanent?

Veneers are a fixed option. They are unlike solutions such as partial dentures, which are to be removed regularly for care. However, they are not permanent when it comes to longevity. While they are known to stay in place for many years, sometimes a decade or longer with proper care, they will eventually need to be replaced. They may still be susceptible to breakage and this may require patients to consider replacements down the road.

Why choose porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a fast and easy way to address imperfections on the teeth in the front of the mouth. These imperfections can also be treated with composite resin bonding, teeth whitening, or orthodontics, depending on the specific concern. Our dentists at West Portal Family Dentistry will evaluate a patient and discuss the advantages of each to help an individual make an educated decision regarding what is best for their specific needs. We want patients to have a choice in how they move forward with their dental treatments.
